OUR CLASSROOMS

The teachers at Stonewood School North practice a philosophy of "looping" with their infant and toddler classes. This means that teachers typically stay with their class of about 8 students from infancy through late toddler years. Classroom design, materials, and schedule may change, but room location, core staff, and the group of children stay consistent. At 2.5 - 3 years of age, children begin to transition to our preschool program, usually as a group. We believe looping promotes healthy relationship development. It also allows our youngest children to feel confident and comfortable while they learn about our world, and ready for success when they begin prekindergarten. Our school aged children participate in an active, exploration-based camp where they are given independence and autonomy in a safe and supervised environment.

All of our classrooms are named after characters created by renowned children's author and illustrator Eric Carle. Our class pets, plants, and garden are cared for as a community and help us to teach children empathy and respect for all living things.

Lil Monkeys - Younger Infants

Our Little Elephant classroom is our youngest classroom at Stonewood. In this room we help children process the new experience of being in childcare and feeling safe being away from their caregivers. We focus on meeting their daily needs and wants as well as encourage them to learn. We foster the growing of their fine and gross motor skills while providing a nurturing and caring environment.

Little Elephants - Older Infants

Our older toddler class, the Ducklings, is a wonderful space for children to develop curiosity about the world. Our teachers have designed an open and welcoming space that feels just like home. Our children are greeted each day with an environment that is loving, kind, and gentle making them feel comfortable to explore the world and develop trusting relationships.

Group work is combined with individual projects and lots of deep and meaningful play to spark curiosity and a lifelong love of learning. Our prekindergarten classroom is approved under Act 166 and families receive funding through their school district for 35 weeks per year.
